Tiffany Li Chin Lin was born (1981) in Tainan, Taiwan and immigrated to the Central Valley of California in 1984. She is the oldest of two children with a younger brother born in the U.S. Her father was trained as a biologist and her mother went to school for midwifery. In the U.S. they both joined the family restaurant business.

Lin began studying piano at a young age; she participated in numerous local competitions and recitals often choosing her own repertoire of modern works or rarely performed pieces. She majored in Piano performance at CalArts where she worked with pianists Vicky Ray and Peter Miyamoto as well as Wadada Leo Smith and Leroy Jenkins. She later transferred to Cornish and received a Bachelor in Fine Arts studying piano and composition with Oksana Ezhokina and Laura Kaminsky.

She has performed in venues in the US and Europe including, The Moore Theatre and On the Boards in Seattle, at the International Festival for Contemporary Performance in New York, Alchemia in Poland, and The Trefpunt in Belgium. Her work has been recognized and supported by Seattle’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, 4culture, Artist Trust, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She is also the programs director and designer at Prefecture Music a small non-profit that advances the creation and understanding of contemporary music through performance, documentation, and education.

Her projects have ranged from traditional performances on piano and toy pianos to installations featuring re-constructed pianos. Recently she was awarded a fellowship at the Montalvo Center for the Arts to work on combining traditional piano playing techniques and non-conventional piano playing methods in composition and performance.
